SEOUL — The South Korean government announced plans, on March 4, to invest 200 billion won (approximately $1.5 billion) in building a national robot test field in Daegu. The announcement was made at a town hall meeting held at Kyungpook National University under the theme of “Daegu Rising as a Leader in Advanced New Industries.”
The robot test field will help companies evaluate and validate the safety and functionality of their robots in both real and virtual environments. It will be located on a 167,000-square-meter site in Dalseong County, Daegu.
The project received an endorsement after a preliminary feasibility study in August 2023. The government and Daegu City plan to select a general management agency and evaluation process this month and begin the project in April. They aim to design the test facility by next year, complete construction of the main facilities in 2026, conduct trial operations in 2027, and provide validation services starting in 2028.
