Date: September 23-25, 2024
Venue: MAX IV in Lund
Topic: Korea-Nordic Advanced X-ray Science Symposium
From September 23 to 25, 2024, the 5th Korea-Nordic Strategic Seminar for Research Collaboration – Korea-Nordic Advanced X-ray Science Symposium – was successfully held at the MAX IV Laboratory. The event was co-organized by the Center for Untrafast Phase Transformation (CUPT) at Sogang University and MAX IV.
The symposium brought together leading experts from both Korea and the Nordic countries. Representing Korea were eight distinguished speakers, including Prof. Hyunjung Kim (Sogang University), Prof. Bongjin Mun (Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, GIST), Prof. Sangho Lee (Sungkyunkwan University), Director General Seunghwan Shin (Korean Basic Science Institute, KBSI), Dr. Jae-Hong Lim (Pohang Accelerator Laboratory), and Prof. Hyon Chol Kang (Chosun University). At MAX IV, Director Olof “Charlie” Karis delivered the opening remarks, followed by engaging talks and discussions with more than ten researchers.
One of the key outcomes of this symposium was the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) to strengthen collaboration between CUPT at Sogang University and MAX IV, as well as between KBSI and MAX IV. The MOU signing ceremony took place at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Stockholm, hosted by Ambassador Hyung Jong Lee. Ambassador Lee emphasized the importance of this partnership as a foundation for expanding scientific and technological collaboration between Korea and Sweden.
The workshop was particularly significant as Korea continues to develop its 4th-Generation Synchrotron Radiation (4-GSR) facility. This event marked an important milestone in building a research collaboration network between Korean and Nordic researchers, which will be vital for the future use and development of advanced synchrotron technologies.
Special thanks go to MAX IV Director Olof “Charlie” Karis, KBSI President Sung-kwang Yang, and Prof. Hyunjung Kim for their dedication and contributions in making this event a success.
