– Countries share policy approaches on key issues to ensure inclusion, safety, and trust in the era of artificial intelligence

The Ministry of Science and ICT (“MSIT”; Minister Yoo Sang-Im) and the National Information Society Agency (“NIA”; President Hwang Jong Sung) hosted the Digital Society Initiative Seminar under the theme of “Inclusion, Safety, and Trust in the Era of AI Transformation” at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, May 27, at Dragon City Hotel in Seoul, Korea.

Launched in May 2024 by the MSIT in cooperation with the OECD Digital Policy Committee*, the Digital Society Initiative serves as an international policy platform for sharing best practices and experiences in AI and digital policy, with a focus on fostering inclusion, ensuring safety, and building trust. As part of this initiative, a workshop was held at the OECD headquarters in Paris on April 29, 2025, where Korea presented the outcomes of its recently enacted Digital Inclusion Act.

* The OECD Digital Policy Committee aims to analyze emerging trends in digital technology development and its socioeconomic impacts, while promoting the exchange of policy recommendations and best practices among member countries.

At the Seoul seminar, OECD Deputy Secretary-General Yoshiki Takeuchi‘s congratulatory remarks were delivered. The event brought together approximately 80 participants, including digital policy experts and representatives from the OECD, foreign embassies, and other institutes, with both online and in-person attendance. The seminar was structured into three thematic sessions―Inclusion, Safety, and Trust―and featured presentations on the latest developments in AI policy by representatives from the OECD, Korea, the UK, Germany, and India. The sessions concluded with an interactive Q&A segment.

* Presenters included representatives from the UK-based policy think tank Demos, the Centre for Responsible AI (CeRAI) at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), and the Max Planck Institute of Germany, among others.

Deputy Minister Song Sang-hoon of the Office of ICT Policy said, “With the rapid deployment of AI, issues such as AI and digital divides, as well as the need to strengthen safety and trust, are becoming increasingly prominent.” He added, “As a global leader in AI and digital policy, Korea will continue to contribute to the development of international standards in AI and digital policy through the Korea-OECD Digital Society Initiative.”
