KITA Dispatches Delegation to UAE for Economic Collaboration
The Korea International Trade Association (KITA) announced on Sept. 24 that it had dispatched an economic cooperation delegation to Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah, the major emirates of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), for three days from Sept. 22, and officially launched the Korea-UAE Economic Cooperation Committee.
KITA had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the UAE Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Abu Dhabi in January 2023, agreeing to establish a committee to expand economic cooperation between the two countries. After regular meetings, they have now launched the economic cooperation committee, consisting of three sectors that are key areas of cooperation between the two countries: Digital·AI·Next Generation, Advanced Machinery·Mobility, and Energy·Infrastructure. On the Korean side, 25 companies entering the Middle East market, including POSCO International (energy), Wrtn Technologies (AI), TWINNY (robotics), Kakao Mobility (mobility), and MegaGen Implant (medical devices), participated.
The inauguration ceremony held on Sept. 22 was attended by about 60 businesspeople from both countries, including Yoon Jin-sik, chairman of KITA, and Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, vice chairman of the UAE Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry and chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry. At the ceremony, Yoon emphasized, “Korea, with its advanced technology and half a century of economic growth experience, is the optimal partner to realize UAE’s national vision. Both countries can draw a blueprint for the future together, not only in existing energy and supply chain cooperation but also in fields such as AI, advanced manufacturing, mobility, and renewable energy.”
Following the inauguration ceremony, a Korea-Abu Dhabi Business Roundtable (BRT) event was also arranged to produce tangible results between businesses from both countries. Additionally, the delegation attended the Korea-Dubai Business Roundtable (BRT) and Korea-Sharjah B2B Forum in Dubai and Sharjah for two days from Sept. 23, and visited key institutions such as the UAE Ministry of Investment, Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, Dubai Airport Freezone (DAFZ), and Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA). Through one-on-one meetings, they had in-depth discussions on strategies for local market entry.
