This report, The Quantum Science and Technology Workforce in Finland 2035, provides a strategic analysis of Finland’s quantum science and technology (QST) ecosystem, with a particular focus on workforce demand and implications for education and re-training through 2035. The study was conducted jointly by InstituteQ and Cygnus Quantum Oy and published in April 2025.
According to the report, Finland has built a world-class quantum technology ecosystem grounded in strengths such as low-temperature physics and superconducting technologies. At present, approximately 1,550 people are directly employed in the Finnish QST sector. If quantum technologies—especially quantum computing—develop as expected, the sector is projected to create around 2,700 new jobs by 2035, increasing total direct employment to more than 4,200 people The report highlights enabling technologies and quantum computer hardware as the main drivers of employment growth, while quantum algorithms and software, as well as quantum sensing, are expected to show the highest relative growth rates. To support this expansion, the report estimates an annual demand of 700–1,300 people for education and re-training after 2030, and emphasizes the need for coordinated national action, including stronger university collaboration, industry–academia partnerships, workforce re-training, and broader awareness of quantum technologies.
