During the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT Bae Kyunghoon had a bilateral meeting with Michael Kratsios, Science Advisor to the President of the United States and Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). They discussed measures for science and technology cooperation and agreed on the launch of a working group to implement the Korea-U.S. Technology Prosperity Deal (TPD), signed between the two parties on October 29, 2025, during the APEC Leaders’ Week.

This agreement is aimed at strengthening the welfare and economic foundations of both countries and advancing the Korea-U.S. alliance through science and technology cooperation.

Both sides will specify the areas of cooperation outlined in the TPD, encompassing AI, research security, next-generation communication, biotechnology, quantum technology, space, and basic research. The working group will be comprised of relevant government officials and experts, and will be coordinated by the MSIT and the Department of State (DOS). A sub-committee will also be established within the working group to facilitate in-depth discussion in specific fields of technology.

The outcomes of the discussion will be announced at the 12th Korea-US Science and Technology Joint Committee (S&T JCM) scheduled for the latter half of this year.
